Each year approximately 750,000 teens in the United States become pregnant. To give a little narrower picture, seven percent of teenage girls in the 15-17 age group become pregnant.
The rate of teenage pregnancy among fatherless girls is significantly higher. According to National Fatherhood Initiative, girls who live in fatherless homes have “more than four times the risk of early sexual intercourse, and two and a half times higher risk of early pregnancy when compared to women in intact families…women who experienced three or more changes in her family environment exhibited similar risks but were five times more likely to have an early pregnancy.”
About 31% of teen pregnancies end in abortion.
But statistics are not the end of the story. If you are a teenager who has become pregnant, had an abortion, or is currently a parent, do not be afraid or discouraged. God still has good plans for you!
What God Says to Pregnant or Parenting Teens
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” –Jeremiah 29:11
